Welcome to Mars at Interesting 2008
By Simon James | April 28, 2008
On June 21st I’ll be performing alongside Ken Hollings at Interesting 2008. The Interesting conference is simply explained in the title really. Its a day of people talking about the things they are passionate about. It is a low key affair but one that seems to generate a lot of buzz. The first Interesting conference took place last year and featured people talking on subjects as diverse as knots, chopping wood, an Elektroplankton quartet, food science, making upmarket porn movies and comics.
As already reported Ken’s Welcome to Mars book is due for release later in the year and seeing as Welcome to Mars started life as a live radio series we thought it would be fun to do a live reading from the book with accompanying electronic soundtrack performed by me. It’s not the first time that we’ve done such a thing and Ken regularly performs live readings of his texts with The Radiophonic Orchestra and Thomas Dolby.
So I’ll be bringing my Minimoog Voyager synthesizer, a reel to reel tape machine and a selection of preprepared tape loops. I might also fire off some old 50’s ad’s from my laptop. It should be a lot of fun and I’m really looking forward to it.
