My musical matchbox
By noisymatchbox | May 2, 2008
It’s musical matchbox time, and this week I have no theme apart from these tracks are the soundtrack to my life right now.
Track 1 - Shannon - Give me tonight
I was introduced to this track by my uncle Pete when I was around 10, I think it was 10. Anyway, the most famous Shannon track is called Let the music play, which I love just as much, but Give me tonight often goes unoticed, and I’m attempting in my small way to right that.
Track 2 - The Pointer sisters - Automatic
A good friend made me buy this on iTunes the other day, and I’d completely forgotten how much I loved it. The power synths, deep vocals and overall 80’s synth poppiness make this a song to make me smile.
Track 3 - LCD Soundsystem - Tribulations (Tiga’s remix)
It is no secret that Simon and myself are massive fans of DFA Records. LCD are my favs, and this remix of Tribulations is my perfect companion on my long morning runs. Why do I love it so - their is a bit after the breakdown where the drums fade up, I love it so much - so simple, but sometimes all you need is a fade.
Track 4 - Junior Reid - One Blood
MNM do a bit of work for Heineken, and last October I was lucky to go to Jamaica to work on some music stuff for them. Junior Reid was one of the acts involved, and it was amazing to meet him and see him perform live. The atmosphere in Kingston is rough, but musically the parties are some of the best I’ve been to.
Track 5 - The Papercuts - Dear Employee
I’ve been dreaming a lot about San Francisco of late, and then this band popped into my world. Main reason I like it, the lyrics. Feeling slightly undervalued by your partner, send em this.
Track 6 - Shocking Pinks - Nothing matters when we’re dancing
Thought I’d end on this lullaby seeing as it’s late in the day an all. More DFA, New Zealand band Shocking Pinks in a more calmer moment.
Enjoy
